
Evelyn Lim began her career in 1997 when she joined the full-time teaching faculty of the-then fledgling Methodist School of Music (Singapore). There she lay the groundwork for what was to become the main training provider for organists in the country. She also taught part time at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore Bible College, and since 2019 at Dulwich College (Singapore).
In 2002 she spearheaded the founding of an organists’ community – the Singapore Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. Together with the Chapter, she collaborates with the Singapore Symphony Group and other esteemed organizations in musical outreach events and concerts, advancing the cause of organ music in its various platforms.
In 2002, she was appointed the Pipe Organ Master of the Klais organ at the Esplanade Theatres on the Bay. There she conducts organ demonstrations, organ loft tours, and works with local and international artists.
In Asia, Lim has performed as recitalist and freelance organist, notably with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Chorus as well as esteemed orchestras and choral groups in Singapore. She has also been featured at the concert hall in Kuala Lumpur as a soloist and in a freelance capacity with the Malaysian Philharmonic.
Lim earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Organ at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She also studied at the University of Houston, Texas, graduating with the Master of Music and Bachelor of Music (summa cum laude) degrees.
Major teachers who have shaped her life and career include Dr John Sharpley (piano, Singapore); Dr Robert Jones (organ), Betty Ruth Tomfohrde (piano), Dr Marilyn Mason (organ), Dr Michele Johns (church music) and Edward Parmentier (harpsichord) in the USA.
